Spring Forward

This Saturday March 9th, we set our clocks forward one hour before we go to bed as we transition to Spring.

I love Spring. Spring is a time of new beginnings, fresh starts, and the best time to start preparing my garden for the season ahead. Early Spring is when I get my garden beds ready for the season of growth to come. I add soil nutrients, ensure the soil is not compacted, remove weeds, and add some compost to the soil. This is also the time I trim and prune my roses.

Another reason I love Spring is because of the sounds of birds. In our yard we are visited by many types of birds including songbirds, bluejays, cardinals, doves, hummingbirds, robins, sparrows, and even hawks.

This morning, I was outside with my dog sitting on our backyard swing. As I listened to the birds chirping and singing, it reminded me of a verse in Psalm 33:3 “Sing to Him a new song.” I hear a new song coming and it is time to make a sound of joy. To sing and praise God because He can be trusted. The Lord is our radiant hope, and we can trust Him. As we trust, we can rejoice in receiving His love. His steadfast kindness overshadows us continually, for we trust, and we wait upon Him.

During the Spring of 2022, we were able to witness a papa bird building a nest on our wreath that was hanging outside of our door. Once the nest was built, we noticed the mama bird came to the nest to lay her eggs. It took weeks until she had laid all her eggs. One day we noticed a few of her eggs started to hatch. Then we started to see baby birds moving. After more weeks, we witnessed the mama bird feeding her babies until one day the baby birds had grown and were able to fly away from the nest. I am including a picture of the nest with the eggs, and a short video showing some of the eggs hatching with the baby birds.

St. Matthew wrote in Matthew 10:29-31 “Not a single sparrow can fall to the ground from its nest without your Father (i.e., Father God) knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore; you are of more value to God than many sparrows.”

In closing, I want to encourage those that are feeling weighed down and discouraged. The Lord is our blessed hope. Happy Spring Forward!
